Health & Fitness -- What's your race?

Activities that might qualify you
as an activie participant in
The Fitness Race

Time block two hours on your calendar to write out your Life List of things you would like to accomplish and do before your time is up on earth.

So long as they are
- physically challenging,
- you cannot currently accomplish the activity and
- you would be happy to go into training to prepare,
then many of the ideas on your life list may qualify you for The Fitness Race.
Just nominate them to your Peer Coach Team Leader to meet the criteria for The Fitness Race as your event.

- Climb Mount Kilimanjaro (19,340 ft) in north-eastern Tanzania.
- Hike up Enchanted Rock (425 feet), an enormous pink granite outcropping located approximately 15 miles north of Fredericksburg, Texas, (near San Antonio), the second largest such granite monadnock in the United States after Stone-  Mountain in Georgia.
- Compete in a (challenging and strenuous) big band dance competetition or create a dance-off (for charity) with your Fitness Race group
- Compete in a figure skating competition
- Compete in a skip rope competition (or create an event for charity)
- Join a large group of us each year to do the Chicago Triathlon, the worlds largest (or any triathlon near you, even a mini one at www.trifind.com)
- Hire a tutor and then compete in a Doube-dutch jump rope competeion event
- Compete in a marshal arts competition, or set a goal to get your next belt.
- Hike the trail at Havasupai Falls at the bottom of the Grand Canyon (10 miles long and some 3000 vertical feet).
- Compete in a ballroom dance competition; create a strenous and challenging routine to impress the judges.
- Run a ½ or a full marathon (or a 5k or 10k charity walk or run)
- Challenge your Fitness Race group to see how many times you can run across the Golden Gate Bridge and back (for charity, if possible). You could pick any big structure in your town… like the Sears Tower, to compete.
- Climb Machu Picchu (Quechua: Machu Pikchu, "Old Peak") in Peru, referred to as "The Lost City of the Incas"
- Take one of the many several-day guided bike tours through Provence in France (or any challenging distance anywhere in the world)
- Ride in a bike century race (100 miles), a half century, or possibly a metric century bike race (62.13 miles)
- Compete in a mountain biking competition
- Compete in an acrobatic or gymnastics competition
- Hire a trainer and then compete in an outdoor rock climbing competition (or at one of the many rock climbing walls at a nearby gym)
- Sponsor a roller-blading race
- Compete in a soccer league with a goal to make the playoffs
- Participate in a speed skating race
- Do a snow ski tour in North America, South America or Europe (or even consider heli-skiing, after proper skill training and clearance of course)
- Attend Cheerleading camp or training and contend in a Cheerleading competetion (You could lead the official Fitness Race Cheerleaders in your area)

If you have ankle, knee or hip problems:
- Join and compete in a masters swim program
- Join a water volleyball or water polo league, set a tournament as your race goal
- Compete or create a kayaking race or competetition (or go on a long kayaking adventure, such as a 2-week Grand Canyon trip with kayaking as a daily option)
- Challenge your Fitness Race group to see how many times you can row across the nearest big river (or lake) and back (for charity, if possible).
- Do a 5k or 10k charity run in a wheel-chair (to save your joints)

OR... COME UP WITH YOUR OWN RACE BY NOMINATING ONE BELOW. THE KEY IS SELECTING ANYTHING YOU CANNOT NOW DO THAT WILL REQUIRE SIGNIFICANT, MORE THAN 12 WEEKS, TRAINING TO PREPARE FOR AND WOULD BE A FUN GOAL FOR YOU
